Short version: if you subscribe, I have your email address and nothing else. If you agree to it, I can see which parts of the page people use. That's the lot.
Your email address goes to beehiiv, which sends the letter and holds the list. beehiiv also records when you subscribed and confirms it by email โ that confirmation is what proves you asked to be on the list, which the rules require me to be able to show.
I can see your address, roughly when you joined, and whether you open the emails. I don't know anything else about you.
Every email has an unsubscribe link and it works immediately. You can also email me and I'll take you off. Your address is never sold, rented or passed to anyone.
The site can use Microsoft Clarity, which shows me things like how far down the page people scroll and which links get clicked. It helps me work out whether the tide chart is useful or whether nobody reads past the third paragraph.
Clarity sets cookies and records an anonymised version of how the page is used. It does not capture what you type, and I can't tell who you are from it.
The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for a short period. That's ordinary web hosting and happens on essentially every website you visit.
I keep replies so I can, well, reply. If you send me something for a story I won't publish your name or any detail that identifies you unless you've said I can. If you'd like me to delete a message, ask and I will.
Under UK data protection law you can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email northberwickparking@gmail.com and I'll do it. If you're not happy with how I've handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
If this changes in a way that matters, I'll say so in the letter rather than quietly updating this page.
